YUTI: Ayubowan! My name is Yuti. This is my friend Ayu. We started this magazine to tell our friends about our adventures and all the interesting things we've learnt. Are you going to be our friend?
AYU: If you're our friend, we'll send you our magazine free. We send it free to all our friends. We send 50,000 magazines every four months. Eventually we hope to reach 1,200,000 children.
YUTI: Gosh, that's a lot... do you think we can print enough magazines?
AYU: I guess some children will have to share. But we must try to reach them all, because that's how many children have been affected by the tsunami and the war.
YUTI: That number makes me want to cry. But it's no good crying. It's better to do something about it.
AYU: That's really why we started Yuti. We wanted to give those children something to take their mind off their troubles...
YUTI: Something entertaining and easy to read, with lots of pictures and puzzles and games to make it interesting, and lots of useful things to learn and do.
AYU: There's so much to learn! And children need to learn these things, otherwise they don't grow up properly.
YUTI: Yes, and then they fight with each other, or they get discouraged and they can't be bothered to do anything, or they don't know how to work together properly.
AYU: Carmen, our project manager says we have to inspire, challenge and educate all our friends. To close the gaps between them and eliminate mutual suspicion.
YUTI: That's a lot of big words but I think it just means helping them grow up and become friends with each other. Do you think a magazine can help children do that?
AYU: I think it can, if everyone can read it. That's why we're printing Yuti in English, Sinhala and Tamil - every Sri Lankan child knows at least one of those!
YUTI: Yes, and if everyone enjoys reading it...
AYU: They will, because there are so many interesting things in it. Just turn the page and you'll see...
